Thanksgiving and Christmas are times where many families get together to give thanks for all the things we should appreciate in out lives. Itâs also one of the few great times to strengthen the ties that bind our families. With families increasingly getting geographically dispersed and with peopleâs increasingly busy schedules reducing the amount of time families spend together, itâs no wonder that making the most of your reunion or get-together is a priority for many families.
With just a little up front planning you can pull off a memorable Thanksgiving that becomes tradition for years to come.
Whoâs Comingâ¦
For most families, the more the merrier rings true. And while it means increased chaos, it also makes things just a lot more interesting and exciting. Iâve never met a family that didnât say they werenât a little crazy. Invite the extended family as much as you can, reconnect and share.
Plan some activitiesâ¦
Make it an event! Plan several days of activities, particularly ones that cause intergenerational and geographic mixing. Include other activities that are age appropriate so that certain groups donât get bored. And always keep in mind not to overengineer what people do. Peopleâs interest change with the wind and forcing people to do an activity they donât feel like doing just causes stress.
