Filming began in March 2010, with an anticipated launch date of December 22, 2010, although advance screenings started earlier in December 2010. The film is about to open the 61st Berlin International Movie Pageant on February 10, 2011.
Premise: Mattie Ross, a 14-12 months-previous lady, undertakes a quest to avenge her father’s loss of life by the hands of a drifter named Tom Chaney. Ross persuades an alcoholic marshal often called Rooster Cogburn to join her in monitoring Chaney down.
Adaptation, manufacturing: Open casting classes had been held in Texas in November 2009 to seek out the part of the protagonist, Mattie Ross. The next month a web site was created which appealed for audition tapes. The web site said that they had been looking for a lady aged between 12 and 17 and that the character was “easy, robust as nails” and that “her unusually steely nerves and easy manner are sometimes surprising”.
The film was shot within the Santa Fe, New Mexico space in March and April 2010, as well as in Granger and Austin, Texas. The first trailer was launched in September. A second trailer premiered with The Social Network. True Grit is the first Coen Brothers movie since Intolerable Cruelty to obtain a PG-13 ranking for some intense sequences of western violence together with disturbing images.
Nobody really requested for it and a few might resist it, however Joel and Ethan Coen’s splendid new adaptation of Charles Portis’ novel True Grit rides with the nice ones. The story of younger Mattie Ross (Hailee Steinfeld) who enlists the providers of cantankerous “Rooster” Cogburn (Jeff Bridges) and Texas Ranger Le Beouf (Matt Damon) to convey her father’s murderer (Josh Brolin) to justice has been faithfully tailored for the screen. Neatly emphasizing Portis’ quirky dialogue and dark comedian tone, the Coens show the flare that made them famous. Whereas the shadow of John Wayne’s iconic Oscar winning efficiency within the 1969 basic looms giant, Bridges makes the position his personal and the Coens make the story their own. Purists could wonder ‘Why the remake?’ however after seeing it will wonder no more. Although westerns have been few and far between in recent times, audiences and Coen followers should rally around this one with good, if not spectacular, box workplace success.
Technical elements are flawless with particular mention to Carter Burwell’s properly austere rating and Roger Deakins’ extraordinary cinematography. True Grit is a true winner, a triumph on every level for the Coen Brothers and one of many 12 months’s most interesting movies.

film night | self portrait

Image by Adam Foster | Codefor
This is my first self portrait in nearly two years, can’t believe its been so long! It came about after seeing a photo on flickr a few weeks ago, I just loved the idea and wanted to try for myself; so I got in touch with the photographer toughkidcst to ask if he would mind me recreating the shot, he was a really nice guy and said yes
I pretty much used my whole collection to create this shot just over 300 DVD’s and Blu-rays and a couple of hours to set it up. Please feel free to add notes, I would love to hear about everyone else’s favourite films.
I have also been tagged a few times over the last two years, but never had chance to actually do it… so here are 10 things you might not know about me:
1. I love the country but live in the city (Manchester),
2. I spent most of my childhood playing the trading card game Magic the Gathering. They now
sit at home in a box but I refuse to sell them even though I could probably buy the 70-200 f/2.8 lens I really want.
3. I worry about pretty much everything.
4. I don’t like living on my own but strangely really like time to myself.
5. I really enjoy my job and wouldn’t want to do anything else…
6. …but I dream of travelling the world taking photos, and might just do it one day but not as a job.
7. I love a Cat and a dog, luckily they get on.
8. My favourite foods are steak, oreo’s and pineapple (not together).
9. I am a true flickr addict but you probably already new that.
10. My most interesting photo fact is that Rob Ford founder of FWA has one of my photos on the wall of his house!
