Lady and the Tramp 23

Posted on December 04, 2010 by Jennib And Friends

Plot

On Christmas morning in 1909, Jim Dear gives his wife Darling a cocker spaniel puppy that they name Lady. Lady enjoys a happy life with the couple and with a pair of dogs from the neighborhood, a Scottish Terrier named Jock and a bloodhound named Trusty. Meanwhile, across town by the railway, a stray silver mutt, referred to as the Tramp, lives life from moment to moment, be it begging for scraps from an Italian restaurant or protecting his fellow strays Peg (a Pekingese) and Bull (a Bulldog) from the local dog catcher.

Later, Lady is saddened after Jim Dear and Darling begin treating her rather coldly. Jock and Trusty visit her, and determine that the change in behavior is due to Darling expecting a baby. While Jock and Trusty try to explain what a baby is, the eavesdropping Tramp enters the conversation and offers his own opinions. Jock and Trusty take an immediate dislike to the stray and order him out of the yard.

In due course, the baby arrives and Jim Dear and Darling introduce Lady to the infant. Soon after, Jim Dear and Darling decide to go on a trip together, leaving their Aunt Sarah to look after the baby and the house. When Lady clashes with Aunt Sarah’s two Siamese cats, Si and Am, she takes Lady to a pet shop to get a muzzle. A terrified Lady escapes, but is pursued by some street dogs. Tramp sees the chase and rescues Lady. The two then visit a zoo, where Tramp tricks a beaver into removing the muzzle. That night, Tramp shows Lady how he lives “footloose and collar-free”, culminating in a candlelit Italian dinner.

The famous spaggethi dinner scene.

As Tramp escorts Lady back home, Lady is caught by the dog-catcher. At the pound, the other dogs admire Lady’s license, as it is her way out of the pound. Soon the dogs reveal the Tramp’s many girlfriends and how he is unlikely to ever settle down. Eventually, Lady is collected by Aunt Sarah, who chains Lady to a doghouse in the back yard. Jock and Trusty visit to

How to Tie the Knot: Wedding Customs From Around the World 0

Posted on November 14, 2010 by Jennib And Friends

Married life inevitably has its ups and downs, so a strong bond between the married couple is needed to overcome all obstacles. In days long past, to give newlyweds a good start in their new life together, friends and relatives would perform rites to appease the gods and ward off evil spirits and give gifts to help the young couple to establish a household and wedding ceremonies would include as many “good luck charms” as possible.

While wedding ceremonies and customs have changed much over the centuries and differ between cultures, they all celebrate the bond between the newlywed couple. So, when you are planning your wedding on foreign shores, why not add some of the local customs to your ceremony? It will make your wedding day as unique as the bond between the two of you and provide lasting memories.

Preparing the Way Ahead
Many countries have customs to ensure the wedding day is a lucky one and not marred by discord, bad luck, or evil spirits. In Germany, friends and relatives smash crockery on the young couple’s doorstep on the evening before the wedding to drive away bad luck. For the same reason, church bells are rung at an English wedding when the bride enters the church to walk up the aisle. The bride’s path, or in some countries the marriage bed, is strewn with flower petals to wish the young couple a happy life together. And to give the newlyweds a chance to settle into the married state without a truckload of chores, an Egyptian bride’s family will prepare enough food to last a week.

Continuity
Customs celebrating continuity are part of the marriage ceremony in many countries. In southern Africa, fire is brought from the houses of the bride’s and groom’s parents to light a fire in the young couple’s house. In Bermuda, it is the custom for the couple to be given a tree sapling along with the wedding cake. The tree is planted where the couple can watch it grow throughout their married life. French
