Now let’s get to New Years Eve. I’ve been blogging about how excited I was about the karaoke event and what I had prepared for the evening. Let me tell you now we never got to the karaoke because we were up on our feet all night dancing and jumping around like teenagers. This NYE celebration was a hybrid because one of my best girlfriend’s birthday is New Year’s Day. She knows how to throw a great party so I went with the expectation of having a great time and of course that’s exactly what happened for most of the evening until…

…the incident.

We had quite the little mix of people at the party that included old friends and new people that I didn’t know. Although I had already had a few drinks I’m sure one of the attendees was a man in heels. What’s funnier is my husband didn’t know it was a man until the woman next to shim spit up. That lack of judgment concerns me but that’s another story for a different day. lol

Up until the incident we had danced and laughed it up for hours and it didn’t look like the party was going to end any time soon which was great. As a parent there aren’t many opportunities for a nice party because of schedules and life so being able to party it up with old friends was a plus all around. I can’t even remember what song I had just finished dancing to but I remember being exhausted when it ended and I fell to the floor on my knees and then butt. Okay at that point I had had quite a few drinks so I was probably on the floor for more reasons than exhaustion but that’s besides the point so don’t judge me.

Anyway, I’m chilling still rocking to the beat and then I feel this splash of moisture hit my lips. WTF I’m thinking but I can’t really see what’s happening. And then like a moment from The Exorcist I see a friend spewing everything her stomach used to contain all over herself, the floor and me. A couple of times I swear I saw that heffa’s head on backwards. lol Thank goodness I got the splash from the crap hitting different surfaces and that I was too drunk to even care. You must really hate yourself when you throw up on yourself. #suckstobeyou And there wasn’t just one moment of possession because she proceeded to spit up another five times before the evening was complete. I thought you’re supposed to be different in the new year not doing what you did the year before. lol

For future reference if you ever want to shut the party down throw up on yourself and the evening will be officially OVER. To throw up but not be able to assist in the clean up just adds more fuel to the fire. My biggest fear with drinking in public is not knowing when the breaking point has been reached and before you know it you’re making love to the toilet and I just never want to be THAT person at the party. I don’t want to be the mean drunk either because well…I’m too old for that kind of shit.

At some point someone also peed on the furniture. I’ll just say that someone was NOT me because I don’t do that kind of drinking because its just no fun. I don’t want to be the Pissy Paul of the party so I chill on anything brown because I know my limits. And later as cleanup started to happen we also found blood on the walls. Who it came from and what part it came from I didn’t want to know I just wanted to be hosed down. The more I think about it I’m starting not to like this party. lol

Seriously though I had a great time in spite of the extra events that took place that evening. I look forward to 2011, thinking back on 2010 and trying to find my other earring. Damn.

Cape Town

Dubai
Dubai features larger than life New Year celebrations in its globally renowned resort hotels and other landmark locations. The celebrations are all encompassing and places such as Sheikh Zayed Road, Dubai Creek, Jumeirah Beach amongst others are the hippest places to be. With plenty of flights from London and availability of cheap tickets, it also remains pretty pocket friendly.

Egypt
Head to Egypt and revel in the glory of two versions of the New Year. One is the Coptic New Year, which starts with the appearance of Sirius, the dog in Egypt’s skies. The other is the Islamic style. This begins with the sighting and declaration of the new crescent moon from the Muhammad Ali mosque.

Bangkok
One of the best and cheapest places for spending your New Year Holidays, Bangkok features most favoured venues such as Siam Square, Sanam Luang, Ratchadamnoen Klang Avenue, Patpong, Silom Road and ‘The World Trade Center front’. Bangkok has long been preferred by Britons and offers very cheap year round holidays with a number of airlines serving it from London.

Mauritius
Although, celebrations completely engulf every nook and cranny of Mauritius, merriment reaches a fever pitch at the Port Louis beach. Besides the usual hotel celebrations, the streets are also filled with firework displays and singing and dancing. Quite understandably, Mauritius is amongst the raging New Year holiday spots.

Singapore
The hottest action is to be found at ‘The Jewel Box on Mount Faber’, Mardi Gras at Clark Quay, and Haviana Ball at the IndoChine Waterfront. This island nation is a highly popular destination for family holidays.

Auckland
New Year celebrations in Auckland are amongst the best in New Zealand. The fireworks display from the SkyCity Tower here is the best sight on the New Year’s Eve and must not be missed. A hot favourite for Europeans, Auckland is convenient destination with number of carriers operating flights from London and other EU airports.

Kuala Lumpur
Malaysia’s perennially happy denizens somehow manage to get much happier on New Year. The streets in Kuala Lumpur are filled with shouts of ‘Happy New Year’ and motorists blowing their horns. Merdeka Square become the most happening places on New Year.

Some background on our cruising experience. This is our 6th cruise we have taken in the last 20 years so by no means are we what you would call experts. Nor would you call us rookies either. In the past 20 years we have cruised with Royal Caribbean, Disney, Carnival and Holland (twice). We have been also fortunate enough to attain a financial level where the last 3 cruises have been at the Suite level.

We booked the Celebrity Century out of Miami Florida, as we wanted to take a New Years Eve Cruise. A word of caution if you are looking to take a cruise over any New Year you will want to book very early. For example, the first week of October there were several options on several cruise lines. In the second week of October most all of these choices we gone.

We left the port of Miami on December 30th 2009 and returned January 4th, 2010.

The Good:

In November of 2009, Celebrity launched several all you can drink options. These include:

-Frozen Drinks (margaritas; daiquiris, etc)

-Alcohol (house alcohol)

There were four of us in our party and we purchased one water card and one beer card for the four of us. I cannot recommend these cards enough. On the water you get your choice of Evian stilled and Perrigrino Sparkling. You get bottled water at no charge at every bar, every restaurant and all day everyday. These are not the small bottles either these are the large bottles of water all the way to the 1.5 liter size. During dinner we easily went through 5 bottles a night.
