So, are you planning to watch American Idol season 9? If so, you will be joining millions of other people around the world in enjoying the musical stylings of various wannabe singers. However, dfo know what it actually takes in order to be an American Idol? What’s involved, who does the deciding and who makes sure those people are up on that stage singing for you once a week while you watch them slowly eliminated from the show? No? Well I didn’t know either so I set out to find out the answer to that exact question recently and here’s what I learned.
First, there are auditions for the show held all over the United States. They are open to pretty much anyone who cares to try out for the show and thousands try out each year. They will have a brief audition together with several other contestants in front of one or two of the shows producers, who ho hum through the songs they sing and send the vast majority of those people home.
Then, they go through another audition, this time involving several hundred, instead of several thousand contestants and this is done before the four American Idol judges, who cull the list further to a small handful who are sent on to Hollywood (by the way, for those who plan to watch American Idol season 9, there will be three permanent judges and one guest judge who will be switched out periodically since the fourth permanent judge, comedian Ellen Degeneres will not be taking up her position until the season officially begins. The guest judges are going to be Mary J. Blige, Kristin Chenoweth, Joe Jonas and Neil Patrick Harris).
Once contestants pass this round, they go on to Hollywood for the actual show. They perform in front of the judges who eliminate people on different days. Each time, the pool gets smaller and smaller until they make it to the

A few years ago my mother started a caroling party in her neighborhood around the holidays. Right around Thanksgiving the invitations would go out and everyone would be asked to bring a healthy dish of food for the pot luck style party.
It started out small, with just a few of the neighbors attending and singing, but it turned into an annual event that drew most of the neighbors to sing and those that couldn’t make it to sing were treated to a group of singers that were belting out their favorite carols. It got so popular that people would start asking about it in November and even my sister would travel from hours away just to participate and let my nieces have the experience.
I don’t think anybody involved would argue with me if I said that they weren’t classically trained singers, but that didn’t matter one lick, because they all thoroughly enjoyed the season and sharing the spirit of the holidays with their neighbors.
As a true believer in the power of music to lift ones soul and improve ones health, I think this is one of the most important things to add to your healthy holiday traditions. Just listening to your favorite music throughout the year can have a tremendous impact on your happiness and your mental health, but caroling takes that to another level.
When you sing your favorite songs not only are you exercising muscles that you typically don’t exercise you’re also lifting your spirits. You know the feeling when you’re riding in your car, you don’t think anyone is looking, so you turn up your favorite song and sing at the top of your lungs. Don’t you feel better after you do that? Now add your favorite holiday songs to the mix and imagine the spirit that will be rushing through your body.
You might not be able to gather a large group of people together to go for a caroling party, but maybe you can gather a couple of family members around an mp3 player and sing along to your favorite carols while enjoying each

Five little letters that have an amazing influence, sometimes intentional and sometimes unintentional, which ever it is there are elements to be cautious with for extreme damage may be inflicted. If you are reading this we have to suppose you do not misuse your power, you do not right? ‘God did not pardon the leaders of old who rebelled in their pride of strength.’ SIRACH 16:7
Certain areas of life have monumental leverage to use their authoritative power wisely specifically for example parents, teachers, ministers, law enforcement officers and government employees behind the desks or innocuous windows. No matter what areas of influence you govern please use it wisely, because as you give you receive. The Laws of Compensation apply to all with indifference of perceived importance or what ever is causing that stiff back.
We are all educators not power mongers and when thought of or used in this light we may reap greater rewards from our endevours than using brute force and ignorance type of influence. A music teacher I unfortunately was a student under had an irritable temper and rather than use patience and encouragement he chose to bash his students over the head if they did not get their notes correctly in tune.
You may imagine how long those students remained under his tutelage which is sad really because he had an opportunity to bring light into a life by encouraging and developing a skill that would forever play an important role throughout any life.
Go to any party and everyone zooms in on the guy or gal who has a guitar and joins in with the jovial crowd of singers. Who cares if you have no idea what alto or tenor is as long as you have fun and fun is what we need in all areas of life not dictatorial power hungry mongers. ‘Joy of heart is life to a man; gladness gives him length of days.’ SIRACH 30:22
Thanksgiving is always with us we just celebrate
