There are many films where the heroes will be involved in some sort of car chase, itâs an age old cinematic spectacle that thrills the audience and livens up the action in the film. Sometimes cars that are features in the movies are special custom versions which we will struggle to find on used car forecourts, like the Tumbler from the recent Dark Knight film, although some dedicated metal workers have built their own version in their backyards!
In general though most films will use an iconic car that will be associated with the movie, in some cases this can help sell that car. This happens a lot with modern cars where they get placed in films to help publicise it in a similar way to how stars will be seen drinking Coca Cola during the film. Well the following is a short list of four movie cars that are stars in their own right, many of them can be bought from collectors or brand new from the local car dealership.
1963 Volkswagen Sunroof Sedan â Herbie from âThe Love Bugâ
The VW Beetle as it is known in the UK is an iconic vehicle that many people not only associate with the film but also the sixties era. There are still plenty of VW Beetles on the road today and have an impressive growl to them. A lot of owners, even those of the newer 2000 model, get their cars to be painted in a similar style as Herbie.
1974/2007 Chevrolet Camaro â Bumblebee from âTransformersâ
The perfect boyâs toys film includes robot aliens that hide among us as cars and other machines. One of the main characters is Bumblebee that initially starts the film as a beaten up, rusty 1974 Chevy Camaro but later in the film transforms to take on the form of the modern 2007 model. This car, since the sequel, has been released in a special Transformers edition complete with Autobots badges.
Aston Martin DBS â James Bondâs car from â007: Quantum of Solaceâ
The James Bond films have

A recent press release that landed in my inbox was from Lamborghini about the Gallardo featuring in the Tom Cruise starrer Mission Impossible: 3 quite prominently. Apparently, the movie’s cast arrived in ten Gallardo’s to the movie’s premiere in Rome.
The connection between cars and Hollywood is not a recent one. Cars have been the stars since James Bond was born. The British agent was one of the reasons why Aston Martins are considered iconic. So effective was James’ rub on Aston’s image that German carmaker BMW decided to hijack Bond from under Aston’s nose and manage to get the rub for some of its cars. BMW not only placed Bond’s butt in the diminutive Z3 but also the lavish 750iL and the futuristic Z8, not to mention the R1200C cruiser. It was only with die Another Day that James Bond returned with Aston Martin again, perhaps now a healthier Aston Martin under Ford was ready to support the movie.
There are others too who have had cars (and bikes) as the stars. Nothing gave a rub to Honda Civics and Mitsubishi Lancer Evos and Eclipses than the two The Fast and the Furious movies. Cruise’s earlier MI: 2 made a Triumph Speed Triple look delicious while admit it or not, the Spyker C8 Laviolette in Basic Instinct 2 looks better than the female lead.
So what do companies get out of this infatuation with Hollywood? A positive image in a hot movie is often better than 100s of adverts and many editorial pages. A bad movie does no wonders for anyone. So for instance, a Biker Boys did not give the rub to the Hayabusa or the ZX 12R or the R1 or the Ducati 996S or GSX 750, all featured prominently in the movie. It did not make a star out of it. The cult hit serial from the 80s – Street Hawk – did make the bike a star but then no one Not for a reason did Spyker fend off heavy competition from Mercedes-McLaren SLR to get close to Sharon Stone in BI 2. For a boutique manufacturer like Spyker to be associated with

“Audition Strategies: an Actor’s Workshop from a Producer’s Perspective”, workshop held February 6 in New York, focuses on the philosophy that an actor’s presentational technique during the audition process is just as, if not more, important as their acting skills. Actors will go through each step of the audition process and learn fast, simple and effective ways to build a portfolio, confidence, and the chance to get the part. The art of independent film and mountain culture are at the core of the Mountain Film Festival taking place in Mammoth Lakes through February 26. This festival accepts films of all genres and especially encourages films with an emphasis on mountain culture, action sports, and environmental issues. On February 8, and in fact every Monday night, long-running showbiz duo Billy Shepard and Judi Jourdan host the Gotta Sing! Search for A Star Open Mic! in Manhattan’s Hells Kitchen Theatre District, just around the corner from the David Letterman show. Participants in the show are also considered for an appearance on the couple’s cable TV program, “How to Succeed in Show Business by Really Trying”, shown on Time Warner Cable every Tuesday. From February 8-9, documentary producers and filmmakers from the East Midlands and beyond are invited to take part in a documentary pitching and marketplace held in Nottingham, offering complete preparation for getting a factual project funded internationally, including at Doc/Fest’s Marketplace 2010 as well as other international markets. A Film Finance Summit in Santa Monica will cover the primary sources of financing content in the credit crunch for television and film — debt, equity, presales and soft money. An evening workshop led by entertainment attorney David Steinberg is on February 8 of the conference which runs through February 10.
At the Paley Center in Beverly Hills, BMI’s VP of New Media and Strategic Development, Richard Conlon, moderates a February 10 roundtable
